1. Who We Are
Kariya's Family Root ("the App") is developed and maintained by Mayank Kariya as a personal, non-commercial project for private family use. You can contact us at hi@mayankkariya.com.
2. Information We Collect
a) Phone Number (Authentication)
We use Firebase Authentication (by Google) to verify your identity via OTP. Your phone number is stored by Firebase and is used solely for login purposes.
b) Family Data You Submit
When you submit a request to add or correct a family member, we collect:
- Name (English and/or Gujarati)
- Gender, date of birth, date of death
- Birth city, current city, occupation, religion
- Relationship links (father, mother, spouse)
- Photo URL and biography (optional)
- Generation number
c) Device & Usage Information
Firebase may automatically collect basic device information (e.g., OS version, device type) for app stability and crash reporting. We do not collect precise location data.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and grant access to the app
- To display family member profiles and the family tree
- To process requests (add/correct members) through admin review
- To allow you to claim and edit your own profile
- To send optional push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) about request status
4. Data Storage
Family data is stored in a private Google Sheets spreadsheet controlled by the app administrator (Mayank Kariya). Authentication data is managed by Google Firebase. No data is stored on third-party commercial databases or sold to any party.
5. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following Google services:
- Firebase Authentication — phone number login via OTP
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications
- Google Sheets API — family data storage and retrieval
These services are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for commercial purposes. Family data is visible only to other approved family members within the app. The administrator may view all data for moderation purposes.
7. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you wish to have your data removed, contact us at hi@mayankkariya.com and we will process your request within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
This app is intended for adult family members. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Family member records for minors may be added by adult users but are not associated with accounts.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data

10. Security
We use Firebase's built-in security, OTP-based authentication, and admin-moderated data entry to minimise unauthorised access. However, no internet-based service can be 100% secure.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
